Ithaca Creek State School was one of 35 inner-city schools selected to participate in the Building Future Schools Fund master planning program in 2017.

The master planning program was established to consider how state schools in Brisbane’s inner-city can continue to provide quality education to all local students as enrolment demand continues to increase with population growth.

The master planning program was completed in June 2019 providing inner-city schools with a blueprint for the future. The plans will assist the Department of Education to identify future requirements across the inner-city schooling network and consider how enrolment growth demands can be addressed in a holistic approach.

The master plans were developed by architects and specialist consultants and considered enrolment projections, current capacity, infrastructure options and possible building platforms as well as site constraints.

The master plans were developed in collaboration with school communities as an important first step in understanding the schools visions and long-term requirements to continue to deliver quality state schooling education to their students.

Further planning will now be undertaken with each individual school to progress the delivery of their stage 1 facilities. As part of this process, consultation will be undertaken with the broader community once internal concept plans have been developed.

The Ithaca Creek State School master plan 

Last year school members were involved in the development of the Ithaca Creek State School concept master plan as part of the Building Future Schools Fund. Along with students, staff and parents, we examined our current school facilities and looked at how we could grow the school to deliver the infrastructure required for our school now and in the future.

Our master plan provides a long-term vision and possible projects for the school to guide future growth through new infrastructure.

In the 2019/20 State Budget, Ithaca Creek State School was allocated funding to deliver the first stage of the master plan which will provide us with a general learning centre. This is an exciting opportunity for the school to deliver modern learning facilities for our community to ensure we can continue to provide the highest quality learning experience for our students.

Project milestones and next steps 

The master plan is the first step in a process used by the Department of Education to plan for the future infrastructure needs of the inner-city schooling network.

DM2 Architecture have recently been appointed to commence the design development for the new building. The Department of Education have been working with parents and staff to articulate a shared vision for the new learning building and its connection to our existing school facilities.

Progress on the design development will be shared as planning continues. The project will also be released for community consultation as part of the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation process.
